Ivy Weir is a Tamaki Makaurau based muti-disciplinary artist working primarily in textile, photographic imagery, and painting. Ivy comes from a background of alternative understandings and creates work with themes of ecology, feminism, psychoanalysis, myth, fairy-tale and personal experience.

Born in Sydney Australia, Ivy’s home-schooled natural learning upbringing influenced her love of creative freedom especially in conjunction with the natural world. As a child, Ivy taught herself how to sew, embroider and needle felt due to being dissatisfied with the pre-made toys available to her.

Ivy studied at Elam School of Fine Arts in 2020; it was here she started experimenting in photographic imagery as well as furthering her interest in paint and textile. Ivy became interested in how material and concepts could interconnect and create new stories.

Ivy’s work explores hidden forces in the ‘in-between space’, creating gothic parallel worlds.
