The show, unendingbeginning sees Steve Lovett revisiting long-standing themes in his art
practice, re-reading the idea of place and experiences attached to those locations in an
attempt to make sense of what has happened, and how we become who we are as a result.
The images gathered together in this new body of work are reconstructions of historical
facts, transit points between the personal and the collective. Lovett, suggests new
articulations of modes of storytelling that are elliptical, subjective and, embody the desire to
show the multiple ways in which individual, small observations—sometimes fictional,
—jostle and intersect with history. In this work Lovett has collected the debris of the past
binding it, at least temporarily, to the present.
Operating between modes of photographic recording and data collection translated into the
printed recollection of ink Lovett assembles a sequence of still image streams emphasizing
the importance of visual discernment, analogue concentration, emphasizing the slowness of
looking.
